Okorocha’s varsity holds matriculation regardless of Imo govt’s ban. THE Eastern Palm University, Ogboko, on Monday held its third matriculation ceremony regardless of the shutting down of the college by the Imo State Government.

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha (born 22 September 1962) is a Nigerian philanthropist and politician of Igbo extraction from Imo State. Okorocha is a former governor and the senator representing Imo West Senatorial district at the 9th Nigerian Senate, who won the 6 May 2011 gubernatorial election in Imo State and was re-elected for his second term on 11 April 2015. The former governor represents the Imo West Senatorial District at the red chamber.

He is the founder of Rochas Foundation, a charity comprising a number of special schools that are spread all over Nigeria that gives scholarship to the less privileged children in Nigeria. On his first attempt, he ran on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform and ran on the platform of All Progressives Congress for his second term

Security was beefed up as visitors and college students arrived for the ceremony.

A former governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, who owns the varsity, mentioned the establishment was constructed and being funded on Public-Private Partnership preparations.

Speaking on the ceremony, Okorocha introduced scholarships for 190 college students from 19 states in Northern Nigeria.

Okorocha, who represents Imo West on the Senate, referred to as on the Federal Government to undertake PPP preparations within the operating of colleges within the nation.

He mentioned that the preparations would enhance the nation’s schooling sector.

Okorocha introduced that the rapid previous President of Liberia, Sirleaf Johnson, had been appointed the college’s Chairman, Board of Council.

He mentioned that Johnson would quickly go to Nigeria to work together with the scholars.
