Obaseki graduated from UI in 1979, certificates not forged. The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, was on Tuesday cleared by the authorities of the University of Ibadan of alleged forgery of his diploma certificates introduced towards him by the All Progressives Congress.

The diploma certificates were confirmed to have been issued to Obaseki by the establishment in 1979 after his formal commencement.

The Deputy Chief Registrar, Legal Affairs, UI, Abayomi Ajayi, who testified on the subpoena, instructed Justice Ahmed Mohammed that the governor graduated from the college.

Relevant pages of UI calendar for 1976, admission brochure for levels, the award of diplomas and certificates and Obaseki’s software for admission, and one other one for the gathering of his certificates from the college have been tendered by the witness and admitted as reveals by the courtroom.

The witness maintained that from the information of the college, Obaseki was admitted as a pupil in 1976 by way of direct entry and graduated in 1979.

Under cross-examination by counsel for the APC, Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN), the witness mentioned, “I will not regard the photocopy of the original certificate as forged, but incomplete photocopy, because the certificate of the University of Ibadan is larger than the paper upon which the photocopy was made.”

Earlier in his proof, Charity Aiguobarueghian, an unofficial advisor to Obaseki, had admitted making the disputed photocopy of the unique diploma certificates for his principal.

All the certificates, which are authentic copies, have been admitted as reveals by Justice Mohammed.

Meanwhile, ThankGod Iduresi, the youthful brother of the South-South Zonal Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Gabriel Iduseri, was on Tuesday shot by gunmen in Benin, who additionally made away along with his automotive.

Gabriel, a witness within the certificates forgery case instituted towards Obaseki, gave his testimony on Monday on the Federal High Court in Abuja.
