NUC approves Ebonyi medical varsity
NUC approves Ebonyi medical varsity. National Universities Commission has approved King David University of Medical Sciences, Ebonyi State, making it the 197th in the country.
Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki was founded in 1999 in Abakaliki, Nigeria. The university’s medical faculty was established in 1991 as ESUT’s Faculty of Health Sciences. Many of its facilities were developed in response to a Guinea worm pandemic; the Abakaliki Specialist Hospital, created for this purpose, was remodeled to become Ebonyi State University’s primary teaching hospital. It was subsequently granted accreditation by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for the training of medical students and resident doctors. Since it became part of Ebonyi State University, the medical school has received considerable funding from the Ebonyi government.
The university, located in Uburu in the Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was built by the administration of Governor Dave Umahi.

A statement on Tuesday, said, “The university is established with the vision and mission that are consistent with the Nigerian National Health Policy and Strategy which is targeted at achieving health for all Nigerians. The university is programmed to provide the manpower needs to address the challenge of human resources for health in line with new global realities and trends that align with the Sustainable Development Goals.”
Some of the courses being offered in the university include Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Health Policy, and Health Systems, Hospital Administration, Dentistry, Optometry, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology/Parasitology, and Biomedical Engineering.
