UNIBEN inaugurates panel on a female student wearing malpractice shirt

UNIBEN inaugurates panel on a female student wearing a malpractice shirt. The University of Benin has denied an online report that 400 Level Microbiology student, Peace Ufuoma, whose shirt had an inscription ‘Aggressive Malpractice Brought Me This Far,’ was asked to rewrite her exams from 200 Level.

Recently, Ufuoma’s pictures and the video went viral on her signing out day and after her final exams where she wore a shirt with the inscription.

The school, however, set up a panel to probe her results so as to verify if her claim as contained on the shirt was true.

Some online news platforms on Wednesday reported that UNIBEN had asked Ufuoma to rewrite her exams from 200 Level.

However, UNIBEN’s spokesperson, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, said that it was fake news, adding that the institution had not asked Ufuoma to rewrite her exams from 200 Level.

Ehanire said, “The report online is fake. The university is following due process; panels have been set up to investigate her claims and the panels are yet to submit their report to the management who will consider the report.”

On July 13, the UNIBEN set up a panel to investigate Ufuoma’s claim.

A letter signed by the Head of Department, Microbiology, Prof. S.E Omonigho, appointed Prof. I.O. Enabulele also of the department as head of the committee.

The letter, which was found online by The PUNCH, reads in part, “To investigate her involvement in any examination malpractice; to investigate what transpired about the online publications; to scrutinize all her results till date, including all exam scripts; to scrutinize all marking schemes for all her courses; how true is the inscription on her shirt.”
