ASUU strike: Plateau NLC mobilizes for a solidarity protest
ASUU strike: Plateau NLC mobilizes for a solidarity protest. The leadership of the Plateau State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has begun mobilization of its members and other affiliate unions in the state ahead of the planned nationwide solidarity protest by the NLC.
The nationwide protest is slated for July 26 and 27, 2022, over the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities which has lasted for over five months
A notice circulated to Plateau workers on Sunday by the leadership of the state NLC said there was no going back on the protest.
The notice signed by the state Secretary of the NLC, Mr. Dalyop Badung, was obtained by The PUNCH in Jos on Sunday.
The notice read in part, “Comrades, this is to inform SAC/SEC and all affiliates and workers alike that the protest rally in solidarity with all Unions in the Tertiary institutions in the country who have been on strike for the past 6 months will come up on Tuesday 26/7/22 as scheduled.
“All affiliates are to assemble under the bridge of the Secretariat flyover by 8 am prompt for the protest.
“We are expected to appear either in our NLC Regalia or your industrial unions’ outfits.”
Some of the workers who spoke on the matter condemned the prolonged strike in the nation’s higher institutions describing the planned protest as necessary to register their disapproval of the situation.
